The Montgo Mountain Nature Park

The nature reserve known as “Montgo Mountain Nature Park” is a place for a one day trip, while on holiday. If you’re up for a hike, climbing the slopes of the giant mountain is fun for those in the proper shape. You will transverse many different types of terrain on the journey up, so make sure to bring you camera or a smartphone with a good quality camera so you can take some great pictures to show your family when you get back home.

Once you reach the top, the views of the entire area are breathtaking. And you can see wonderful views of almost the entire area of Javea. For those horticulturists on holiday, the region boasts an impressive around six hundred types of plants.

One review I read online stated “Lovely walks and views without being too dangerous or strenuous” that is in fact correct, but make sure you bring plenty of hydration on the upward bound trip. It’s also advisable to pack some lunches, and carry them up with your back pack.

The area around the mountain is terraced, and was one used by a local winery for sweet wine production. They are no longer used by any company/wine maker but there are many eatable grapes in the area. Just be sure again to check a nature book, or consult someone who knows what berries are edible, and which are poisonous.

As for animals found on the Mountain, there are gulls that nest high up on the nature reserve. As well as owl and a type of eagle nest among the large pines up on the mountain top. Jack rabbits and some other small mammals also call this area home.

There are no venomous reptiles in the area, so that can calm your nerves a little. The mountain can be climbed from any side, again do to the irrigation, and terracing once done long ago. Get a start early in the morning, to avoid the mid-day sun on your travel upwards. In closing I say to you “you must go to Montgo!” I highly recommend it as an add-on, great mountain trek to your Javea holiday.

Mountain climbing is fun and you will feel great after you’ve gotten to the top but it can also take it out of you, so that means you are going to want to relax after you come back down the Mountain right?
